Welcome to the official website of Khenpo Karma Gyatso
At age seven, a young Karma Gyatso traveled on foot with his family through the mountains of rural Nepal. They made the arduous week long trek for the rare opportunity to receive teachings from HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and HE Tulku Rizin Pema Rinpoche. It was there in Jumla, after the final day of teachings, that Karma Gyatso would offer Khyentse Rinpoche a lock of hair from the crown of his head, and receive the Vows of Refuge. At age eleven he traveled from his remote village near the Tibetan border to the Great Stupa in Boudha, Kathmandu. In this sacred place he put on monk's robes for the very first time. A year later he would travel to Namdroling Monastery in Southern India, and become the student of HH Penor Rinpoche. In this great seat of monastic learning, he studied for years. In that time he was blessed to receive teachings, empowerments, and oral transmissions from many notable and accomplished Masters. He would continue to study becoming a Lopen, and eventually attain the title of Khenpo. Which is the highest academic title conferred in the Nyingma Tradition. It is akin to a Doctorate in Buddhist Philosophy. Now, after more than a quater century of studying, Khenpo Karma Gyatso wishes to share the precious Dharma with all who would listen, with the sincere wish to learn. Welcome.
